Citrus Elementary School 2nd Grade Teacher
Born and raised in Vero Beach, Lisa Segroves became the first in her immediate family to graduate college at the age of 24. She attended Vero Beach Elementary, Dodgertown Elementary (Clement’s Elementary back then), Gifford Middle 6, Gifford Middle 7 (now Gifford Middle School), Vero Beach Junior High School (the Freshman Learning Center) and Vero Beach Senior High School.
Lisa's first year teaching elementary school was in 2003, where she was a 1st grade teacher teaching at the same school where she was a 1st grader! This is her 26th year teaching in Vero Beach. She currently teaches 2nd grade at Citrus Elementary school but also taught for 3 years at Oslo middle school, 15 years at Vero Beach Elementary. This is her 8th year at Citrus Elementary school.
Lisa knew she wanted to be a teacher when she was 4 years old! Inspired by her 3rd grade teacher, Dotty Strickland, to pursue her goal of becoming a teacher, Lisa would bring home extra work already completed when she was in upper elementary school and middle school and be a little teacher to her brother and some of the neighborhood children on a neighbor’s back porch every afternoon. Growing up, while in high school and community college, she always enjoyed taking care of children by helping her uncles, aunts, and other friend's children by pick them up after school and helping them with school work and their after school activities.
“My hope is to make the difference in children’s lives each year, continue to have high expectations for every student and create a classroom where all students are loved, welcomed and family!”
Lisa has tight ties to our community and has and does volunteer for many officer positions in organizations including the Vero Beach Elementary Social Committee, American Cancer Society, Crossover Mission, Vero Beach Little League, Cal Ripken League of Vero Beach, Oslo Middle School Baseball, Vero Beach High School Football Boosters, Vero Beach High School Basketball Boosters, Crossover Mission AAU basketball team, Vero Beach High School Baseball Booster, and Florida Half Century Amateur Softball Association. She has been the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life representative at VBE and Citrus Elementary schools for the past 20 years. Lisa is also a tutor/teacher for the Learning Alliance-Moonshot Academy after school and during the summer at Citrus Elementary and VBE and she has volunteered at Crossover Mission as a tutor/teacher to help students with their homework and school work for the past 6 years.
Lisa requests supplies that will help her students reach their I-ready and Reflex goals and make the classroom warm and inviting, like a class family.
